Mohammad Usman was born on 1st June 1935. The family was moderately well off
amongst the members of the Okhai Memon Community settled in old Karachi.

He had his primary schooling in a Khadda Gujrati Vernacular school, and basic
religious education in the locality madressah. He took up Psychology and
Philosophy as main subjects, on joining S.M. Arts College, Karachi. In 1957,
Mohammad Usman completed his four years college education and passed his B.A.
Examination (in First Division).

He was, however, called upon, in about 1958, to shoulder business responsibility
through his father's strong persuation. He was chairman of the Pakistan Sugar
Mills Association and Cigarette Manufacturers Association of Pakistan.

Usman was basically however personality sensitive to the social problems as his
deep concern for the well being of the less fortunate people around him was
easily visible. He had gone all out in social life and made contribution in
innumerable social welfare and literary bodies. The most remarkable achievement
was his introducing new concept in social welfare work where he caused to
mobilize general interest through democrative traditions.

At home, he was a loving father having six children (all daughters), devotedly
sweet husband, affectionate to his brothers and sisters and dearly and deeply
loved child of his parents and uncles.

He was always concern to keep good health and fit body and would do all possible
to advise others to follow routine exercises. it was following his concern that
he adopted horse riding as his fondest hobby. On the fateful day on 11th
February, 1973, he compiled the routine and had gone for riding at 08:00 O'clock
in the morning. But alas, after only few minutes riding, he collapsed due to
cerebral haemorrage. he was rushed to the holy family hospital but, after four
days of remaining in coma during which all possible medical treatment was
provided, he breathed his last at 7:00 O'clock on 15th February, 1973.
